But when I saw "The Park is Closed" sign at the gate, I closed up shop. In addition to the user guide, I also usually check out a product's forum to see if there are any discussions that might reveal something interesting. I'm sure many will love it, but I think I should just focus on what I already have. So I really didn't find any special MIDI workflow (Note Clips), or other compelling features, that I cannot already do in Sonar, or elsewhere. I plan to stick with Sonar for the audio tracking and mixing. I was just willing to bring my own VSTs, if their MIDI workflow proved to have some advantages. Or were into sampling, the Rex stuff, the patching options, etc. I guess the value of Reason would be if you are already familiar with their instrument rack and tools, or were willing to learn them.
#Reason 9.5 release upgrade
The Reason Essentials edition at $69 is budget friendly, and is supposed to support VST in the 9.5 upgrade at the end of the month! But what I really found was that the core Reason app is simply just another DAW. Back when soft synths were beginning to appear, that synth rack sure looked appealing! So this time I was just trying to evaluate Reason for the MIDI workflow alone, and look past all their native instruments, considering that I planned to use my own VST plugins. But I have a good DAW with a workflow that I already know! It had been many years since I last took a look at Reason. The VST crashes could prove to be entertaining, for sure! Well in all fairness as well, I'm sure it is a good DAW. Where else would be complain about our VSTs crashing Reason?! My guess is the forums will be back online (somewhere) shortly. If adding VST support doesn't signal a new era for Reason, I don't know what would. It does say "an end of an era", and suggests they saw the writing on the wall. Well, in fairness, that's more a reflection of where they were two years ago. Guess what? They discontinued their forums over two years ago! Yup! Uninstalled. Just had a few questions, and naturally went looking for their forum.
